# Validators

Lium runs a single validator, operated by the Lium team.

The validator checks every connected node every 15 minutes. With the rental probe (lium-io#1361, behind the validator flag `RENTAL_PROBE_ENABLED`, off today) it also rents an idle node the way a customer does, at most once per 6 hours while the node passes, unless the platform asks for one sooner. A node that fails a step is off the market for one cycle.
